Leonâs cult was flourishing. The Golden Hand and his priests had flooded the starting locations in all the dwarf cities, the monopoly they enjoyed on building temples enabling them to create a powerful source of prana. But to get the cities and their people to bend the knee to the new god, they had to complete mountains of quests and provide divine aid to the dwarves. The larger the city and the higher the level of the people in it, the bigger the quests had to be.
The war with the undead was ongoing around the world, and it was harder and harder to keep propaganda going out to the cities. But the dwarves were an enormous source of prana that Leon was able to wrest away from the old gods, both weakening them and strengthening himself.
Just then, a dwarf ambassador arrived. Leon frowned.
âValdin?! The dwarves used to send somebody else. Has a change been made?â
âGreetings, Leon. Iâm not here as an emissary of the dwarves. My master would like to speak with you.â
For a couple of seconds, Leon didnât know who the master was. Who would somebody as highly placed as Valdin, a member of the royal family, call master? The dwarves always sent members of the royal family. There was no risk, and they didnât mind losing them anyway.
But then, the dwarf let out such a strong aura of death that the flowers wilted, the wine went bitter, and the smell of rot filled the air. Somehow, he was with the undead.
âHello, little god! Do I need to tell you my name, or have you guessed?â
A god and the undead.
âTalamei! How did you dare get in here? And in the body of that dwarf!â
Using his magic vision, Leon realized that it was an avatar of Talamei standing before him. The amulet on the emissaryâs neck was releasing the dark aura, meaning that it was how Talamei had entered the dwarfâs body.
âAh, you guessed.â The dwarf laughed horribly. âI have many followers all around the world, and I could kill you all if I wanted to. But thatâs no fun.â
âWhy are you here?â
âIâm looking for someone, somebody who dared wound me and escape. Heâs a boy, young and gifted in the forbidden magic arts. I found out that you were the one who ordered him to kill my undead in the mountains. So, that means you know the boyâ¦Sagie.â An evil grin twisted the dwarfâs rotting face. The avatar was practically glowing with anticipation.
âAre you talking about the girl with the golden hair?â
âIt was a boy, Iâm sure. Where is he?â
Leon was stunned, realizing who heâd been talking with.
âI donât know. I wanted to get him, too, though neither he nor his friend cared about us. They both got away.â
âA young and stupid god,â the avatar said, shaking his head. âIâm not asking what you want. If he doesnât show up where we fought in the next month, I will destroy one of your castles. That will continue to happen until you find him for me.
