Targon fired another medium-strength Ice Crystal at the Vollex and began charging another immediately. The rush of Mana from the Mana Crystal was barely enough to keep up with the drain of constantly charging an Ability.

He wasn’t lucky enough to hit the Warlord a second time, but one of the twirling axes connected as the monster was forced to duck the projectile.

They fell into an irregular pattern – Targon charging a Crystal for two whole seconds before firing it, the Psionic keeping the Warlord engaged and unable to capitalize on its greater reach and strength. Whenever a Mana Crystal expired, Targon would spit it out and pop in another, doing his best to ignore the acid tang it left on his tongue.

By degrees, the strategy seemed to be working. The Vollex grew noticeably tired, its strikes weaker.
