CHAPTER 13

A METHOD FOR ESCAPE

THE ROOM WAS DIMLY LIT AND FILLED WITH A MISTY smell of rotten wood and even more so rotten food. A teenage boy with a thin, twig-like body leaned up against the concrete wall. His skin was pale and looked like he'd never heard of sunlight, and his hair a disheveled mess. He wore a long black draping coat and ripped t-shirt and jeans underneath. Holding a magazine tight in his grip he groaned in frustration.

“These stupid kids are becoming a real pain in my ass. I knew I should have killed them when I had the chance. First, the Premier boy takes out Pascale, not that anyone will miss her, but now they ve destroyed the entire army of monsters I worked so hard to create." In reality, Brooklyn, the new de facto leader of Luminosa with the defeat and arrest of Dusk, did nothing but give the orders on the projects taking place in the sewers. But as the leader, he felt he deserved the credit, of course.

“It's a good thing I always come prepared though... I won't be letting you win this war that easily, Hero of Light. Not you, and not your kid either.”

He reached over and grabbed the butcher's knife beside him chucking it into the wall like he was throwing a dart. It pierced the wood with a thud, landing with perfect precision. The target: a poster of the Hero of Light giving a thumbs up.

“Ignis needs to hurry up, I ve got better things to do than sit around waiting for him all day." He stood up walking over to the door before a pair of claws shot out from his left hand. He sliced the door that he could have easily opened and kicked it down just to blow off some steam. He was alone at the moment, stewing away in frustration. His desire to kill the Hero of Light and wipe out the wretched society he'd grown to hate so much had been put on hold. At least until he regathered some forces on his side. The slime monsters may have been set back temporarily, but he still had choices.

Meanwhile, the partners Brooklyn relied on to achieve his plans were on the move again. Except this time, it was not of their own doing.

Because of the backlog of those being placed in the high-level jail known as Penatang, a long list of inmates had been waiting to be placed in their new home. Luckily, the city had a few other options to hold them securely for the time being, but today would be moving day for the next group.

The roads were bumpy as those two loyal followers sat in the back of a highly secure military truck. They sat, their backs pressed against the side walls with handcuffs locking their hands behind their backs. Not that they had any intention of breaking out. They would be swarmed and contained in mere seconds by the men in the front of the truck.
