BEVERLY DRIVE, 1922. Looking north along the curved palm-tree-lined street, the original master plan was to plant different palm types and heights in a staggered pattern to give the area a sense of artistic landscaping and further the idea of the residents living in a park-like atmosphere.

BEVERLY HILLS NORTH OF SANTA MONICA BOULEVARD, 1924. By the mid-1920s, Beverly Hills was still only half developed, with its small business district being centered at Burton Way (South Santa Monica Boulevard today) between Beverly Drive and Canon Drives. Rodeo Drive (the second street from the left in this photograph), Beverly Drive, and Canon, all south of Santa Monica Boulevard, were still residential. In 1924, the Church of the Good Shepard, with its landmark twin golden domes, was erected at Santa Monica Boulevard and Bedford Drive. The Beverly Hills Community Church was organized in 1921, and a church was opened in 1926 at Rodeo Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard.
