Georgia O’Keeffe was a talented artist. She fell in love with New Mexico on her first visit and said it gave her inspiration. Soon she moved to New Mexico where she painted pictures of the landscape and animal bones that were bleached by the sun. Amazed by the light, she said, “It is never, never the same. Sometimes the light hits the mountains from behind and front at the same time...so that you have distances in layers.” She also said, “If you ever go to New Mexico, it will itch you for the rest of your life.”

She enjoyed visiting local Native American ceremonies and spending time on her roof looking at the stars and moon. Today many artists continue to be attracted to New Mexico and its crisp, clear light, just like Georgia O’Keeffe.

Georgia O’Keeffe was an artist and O’Keeffe begins with an O.

She found her inspiration when she saw New Mexico.
