âHow did she know I was at the game?â
âSimple, Dude.â Sumo didnât look up from his cell phone. âYour Momâs got radar. All Moms do. They gotta. Itâs like a law or something.â His thumbs were power tapping the screen. âListen to this. There are all these people going on about Dylan sightings. Claiming they know him and have seen him all over Brea.â Sumo read some more and cocked his head. âHas he really been to the Brea Mall? Anyway, people are posting they saw him at the game last night and want to know where heâll be today.â
Am I going somewhere?
âSumo!â Casey threw both hands up. âGet a grip. Momâs freaking out. Dylanâs on puppy probation and Iâm going to be grounded until I go to college.â
Sumo stopped, his thumbs in midair. âYour momâs cool. At least she cares about you.â
Casey snorted. âSo does yours.â
âDid I tell you sheâs getting married again?â
âWho is it this time?â
âThe guy who owns a winery in Paso Robles. Youâve met him. Tons of money.â
âHe seemed okay.â Casey moved his juice glass aside when Ingrid came in with a plate of waffles and set them down. âLooks great. Thanks, Ingrid.â
âYouâre welcome, Casey. Eat your breakfast before it gets cold, Sumo.â
His fingers kept at his cell phone. âYes, Ingrid.â
She put a bowl of scrambled eggs on the floor for Dylan. Dylan sniffed happily. Thanks, Ingrid.
Ingrid wiped her hands on her apron. âCasey, your mother called the house phone. Sheâs on her way.â
Casey slid his eyes to his cell phone. Four missed calls. Mom. âThanks, Ingrid.â
âWait until you hear this.â Sumo bounced in his seat and looked up from his cell phone. âPeople want to name a holiday after Dylan.â
Dylan Day?
Casey stuffed waffle into his mouth. âWhy do I always get grounded every time I mess up? Aiden never did.â
âHeâs got a charmed life.â Sumo shrugged. âEven people who get mad at him, still like him. Give it up. You canât compete.â
Caseyâs cell phone vibrated on the table, and he glanced at the screen. âGuess who?â
Sumo laughed. âIsnât it like three in the morning in South Korea?â
âProbably, but you know Aiden. Lifeâs a party and heâs hosting.â He picked it up. âHi. Iâm at Sumoâs.â Casey switched to FaceTime. He propped his cell phone against his juice glass, and Aiden filled the screen. âWhatâs up?â
âHi, guys.â
Aiden? Dylan scratched at Caseyâs leg.
Casey reached down and put Dylan on the chair next to him. He scooted him close and angled the cell phone so Aiden could see him. âSay hi to Dylan.â
Dylanâs backside wiggled and he slipped off the chair. Ow!
Casey helped him up again.
âHey.â Aiden leaned in. âMom says youâre having a great time.â
I am! Dylan gave a happy woof and then stopped. Is that okay?
âSo, Casey, you got your cast off.â
Casey turned in his chair and shot his leg in the air. âYeah.â
âHowâs it going with Dylan? What has he destroyed? Anything left of the house?â
Dylan and Casey looked at each other, confused.
Iâve been busy being important.
