Look at only what you have come to see. Please leave everything untouched. That way is best for you!
It was just as the time before. He smiled at the familiarity before he lifted the latch and opened the door to what he knew to be the cellar. It was here that the smell of turpentine was at its strongest. He flicked the switch to the left of the door, a low voltage light to the side of the steps responded immediately and he slowly descended excited at what might be awaiting him.
Cyril hung up his jacket, straightened his desk before plugging a battery for his electronic cigarette into the wall socket. It hung limply, a single, red neon light showing that it was now charging. He checked his mail and then moved through to the Interview Room. If he expected every one of his team to check the white boards daily, then he should be seen doing just that.
Shakti was sitting looking through three files.
âMorning. Anything from your side?â
Shakti looked up and smiled. âLooking again through the files on Freshmanâs employees. Wanted to know more about Darwin Green. Never really showed any emotion after Nathalie died, seemed somehow too cool, too relaxed. Read his statement again and again and I feel thereâs something that heâs keeping to himself.â
âBring him in and interview him again if you have any doubts, thatâs what we should be good at, responding to these instincts. You could also take Owen and interview him at his place.â
Shakti nodded and returned to reading the file.
It was a note on the second white board that brought Cyril up short. He stuck his e-cigarette between his lips and read it, looking at the still images captured from the Harrogate Grand Hotel CCTV.
âChristopher Nelson has been busy. Three days before Nathalie Grayâs death, the day of her death, but we know he stayed as he had an ex-colleaguesâ function, if I recall, but then heâs back two days later and now heâs missing. Have we put a check on ports and airports and has his image been broadcast?â
âYes, and nothing as yet. Have a feeling that he may not be going far from his current position if you get my drift, Sir.â
âIndeed I do and I feel the same way. Somebody is going to smell him before they see him!â
It was unusual for Cyril to seem so cold and it did not go unnoticed. Shakti could not help but pull a face. He left the Incident Room and went to DC Stuart Parkâs desk. Stuart was just uploading his findings.
âSir, not added this to the wall yet but itâs really interesting. Nelson might have been seeing another woman as well. Not only does Gray appear in the footage but also another, a more mature lady. Significantly, both not at the same time!â He winked at Cyril. âA ménage?â
He brought up three screen capture images. Clearly Christopher Nelson was in conversation with another woman, one shot even captured an embrace.
âDo we know who she is?â
âShe certainly didnât check in personally at the hotel.
