Cherokee was set in the heart of some of the most beautiful scenery Iâd ever had the chance to witness. Mountains, rivers, and trees stood aloft from the encroachment of man and seemed only to tolerate his presence like you would that of an annoying relative that nobody really likes but still gets invited to Christmas.
It didnât take me long to find the casino, I just followed the signs to a big building with a lot of lights. Parking the car, I locked the gun and my sword in the trunk then went to find the bar. Stepping inside I had to wonder if I was in the right place. With all the loud noises, flashing lights and people everywhere it didnât seem like the kind of place for a clandestine meeting with a group of monster hunters. Actually, that was probably the point and with the large crowd it was highly unlikely that anybody would attempt to kill anybody else.
I went to the front desk and asked for directions to the bar which got me a suspicious look since I obviously wasnât old enough to drink legally. Giving the lady a disarming smile I said âIâm meeting a friend there.â She gave me directions but was obviously not convinced. I could feel her eyes on my back as I walked away, she was probably going to have security watch me but I didnât plan on doing anything illegal so it didnât really matter.
Sitting down at the bar I waited for the bartender to come over, she was very cute with dark eyes, long black hair, and a natural tan. âWhat do you need, handsome?â She asked with a smile.
âCan I get a Dr. Pepperâ I asked âand Iâm looking for an old friend of mine. I hear he calls himself the Medicine Man these days.â
Her smile didnât change but there was a look in her eyes that told me I was in the right place when she said âSure thing sugar. Iâll get your drink then tell him your here.â
Less than a minute later there was a drink in front of me and I could see her talking into a phone at the other end of the bar. I was maybe half way done with my drink when a man who was built like a fridge sat down next to me.
âI hear youâre looking for me.â He said âBut Iâm pretty sure we ainât âold friendsâ so who are you and what do you want?â
I looked him over and said âFirst, Iâd like for you to get me the real Medicine Man if itâs not too much trouble.â
Suddenly an arm was across my shoulders and I could feel the tip of a knife pressed against my ribs as another, smaller man leaned around and smiled at me, âHey bro, itâs been a long time! Letâs go somewhere private and catch up.â
Iâm not going to lie, I was impressed. It was a slick move and very well executed on their part.
