Tuesday morning, I woke up early and put all thoughts of my dream guy to the back of my head. I had to stop thinking about him. With that, I changed into my uniform.

Entering the kitchen, I found Steve buttering toast. I inhaled and licked my lips, taking a piece covered in butter and jam. Steve shook his head and tutted. I smiled at him, before taking a bite. There was nothing like hot toast with melted butter and jam.

The cool air hit me full in the face as I stepped out of the house, joining Wendy at the bus stop.

Taking our seats a few minutes later, Wendy hummed the tune to a Grease song, while my thoughts were on Joshua.

He stares up at me with his big brown eyes as I sing to him. He stands, moves towards me, and climbs the wooden steps. He gently pulls me towards him. I stop singing as he takes hold of my hand, our fingers entwine and then...

“Debbie, we’re here!”

“Huh!” I said, turning to face her. “Sorry.”

Wendy shook her head and grabbed her own bag as we got off the bus. I swung my bag over my shoulder, missing Karen by inches.

“Hey, watch it, Debbie. Or should I call you, Sandy?”

Here we go, I rolled my eyes. “What!”

“You heard me.”

We stood on the path outside the school.

“What's your problem now?”

“You,” she said poking her finger into my chest. “How come you got to play Sandy?”

“Look, it's really none of your business. After what you pulled--”

“What I did! She deserved, I--” Karen began shaking her head.
