“NOAH, WHAT ARE YOU DOING here?”

My boyfriend quickly stepped away from Granite’s bulging biceps. “Nicky, are you still working out this late?”

Granite sat on his desk and flexed his powerful thigh muscles. “Shouldn’t you be in bed by now, Nicky?”

Coming to my side, Noah said, “Dad needed a lift to visit with Cheryl. While I was waiting for him, I noticed Van’s light on.”

And his motor running.

Noah led me into the office. “When I heard a noise in the hallway, I jumped back and Van caught me.”

How convenient.

“Aghhh!”

Our heads whipped around faster than an anti-gay politician’s on thong day at Key West. Scott Oliver stood at Granite’s doorway with his chubby hands pressed against his flabby back.

Noah rushed to his father. “What’s wrong, Dad?”

“Cheryl and I were…talking and I fell off her couch.”

Noah put his arm around his father. “Where’s Cheryl now?”

“She went to get an ice pack. I need to get home and into bed,”

replied Scott.

“We better get going, Van,” said Noah.

“Of course,” replied Granite with a glance at his wall mirror.

“Help me, Nicky,” said Noah with a concerned look on his handsome face.

Noah and I took Scott’s arms as if we were club bouncers with a poor patron. As we walked Scott out of Granite’s office, Scott bent over and moaned like the leader of an ex-gay ministry on the beach in Provincetown.

“Get home safe, guys,” said Granite with a wink at Noah.

After gently placing Scott into Noah’s car, I followed Noah and Scott home.

Amidst Bonnie scolding Scott for visiting “that woman,” Noah and I helped Scott up the stairs and into bed.

When Noah and I finally crawled into our four-poster, Noah rested his blond locks on my chest, said he loved me, and was out like a light.

I lay awake looking up at the moon’s lavender and gray reflection on the ceiling. Images of Noah and Granite, Mack and Brick, and Cheryl and Scott raced through my mind. Eventually I relaxed into my hypoallergenic pillow with visions of a young Robbie Piccolo, and I fell asleep.
