I knock tentatively on Liam’s door. I can hear muted voices inside, and soft music. It’s definitely not a vampire rave in there, and—I remind myself forcibly—that’s a good thing. Liam answers the door with a wide grin.

“Paige, I’m so glad you came!” He ushers me inside.

“Everyone! This is Paige. She runs Down & Dirty Cleaning.” Surprisingly there are mutters of recognition. One woman even raises a glass to me, and tips me a wink. I don’t know if my impromptu rescue of Shauna that went viral is the reason or not, but I’ll take approval where I can get it.

“Red or white?” Liam asks.

“I...red,” I tell him when I realize he means wine. He hands me a glass and brandishes a fancy-looking tray of fruit, cheese, and crackers.

“Snacky?” he asks. I laugh.

“What, isn’t that what you Americans say?” he asks, with a smile on his lips.

“Did you hear someone say that to a child?”

“Yes,” he admits. “And I wrongly assumed ‘snacky’ was something all you yanks say.”

“You sure did, but I’ll take a snacky if you like.” I enjoy the blush that rises to his cheeks as I snag a grape off the tray.

Liam motions me to follow him into the living room, where a group of people are gathered. They’re all in their late twenties to mid-thirties.

“This is Madison, Addison, Chase, Dakota, Aiden, and Ramy.” I nod at everyone, though there’s no way I’m going to remember half those names, much less which belongs to whom. All of Liam’s friends seem nice enough; they look at me with open, earnest faces that make me feel a bit uncomfortable, but I’m the new one to the group so that’s to be expected.

“I saw you on Friendbook!” Madison or Addison tells me, stepping closer.

“I’m not on Friendbook, but I did see the reblog of the retweet of the video on Woketube.” One of the other women says. Yep, so it was definitely the Shauna rescue mission that had heads nodding when I walked in.

“I’m only on Friendbook ironically,” the first woman clarifies.

“And you were…Sorry, I forgot your name already.” I say.

“No worries. I’m Madison, Mads.” She takes a cracker from the tray and nibbles it. “I think what you’re doing for supes is just fantastic.”

“Thank you,” I say, taking a sip of wine. “And what is it I’m doing exactly?”

Addison laughs. “Don’t be modest. You’re fighting the good fight. None of us are free until all supes are free.”

“Right.” Shit. They think I’m some kind of warrior for justice.

“Is the fae okay?” one of the men, who is sporting a man bun, asks.

“Shauna, yeah. She’s tough. She was a bit banged up but she’s all better now.” I’m not going to get into the wing damage that Brent caused. Shauna is still recovering, and there is something vaguely pathetic about her wandering around the house, holding it out at an awkward angle as the gossamer tissue regenerates.

“Is she a client of yours?” someone asks.

I laugh because Shauna doesn’t care about things being clean.
