CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
Olivia and Karen went to look for Morgan and Rob Miller. They found both men in Morganâs office. Karen was pleased to offer some good news for a change.
âVishalâs started talking,â she said as she took a seat next to Rob.
âExcellent,â Morgan said. âHow much did he know about the Perrysâ operation?â
âQuite a lot,â Olivia said before Karen could answer. âOnce he started talking, it all came out. To summarise, the man pretending to be Aleksy Iskow is Charlie Cook. He is a key player and organises transportation for the work in Lincoln. He was in the garage when you and DS Hart turned up because he was looking for something Aleksy had taken from him.â
Morgan looked at Karen. âThe notebook?â
âThatâs my guess,â Karen said. âThough Vishal didnât know what he was looking for.â
âSo Cookâs Haulage is definitely involved?â Rob asked.
âYes, though Vishal only had dealings with Charlie,â Olivia said. âHe says he doesnât know what happened to Aleksy.â
âAleksy took the notebook. Maybe he was planning to use it as evidence against the Cooks,â Karen suggested. âEither that or a way to blackmail them. I wonderââ
âItâs one possibility,â Rob said, cutting her off before turning to Olivia. âExcellent work.â
Olivia patted her perfectly coiffed hair, quite happy to take all the credit.
âThat makes sense, Karen,â Morgan said. âI imagine Charlie would have been very keen to get the notebook back.â
âWe donât know for sure it was the notebook Charlie was looking for,â Olivia said. âStill, I suppose itâs one option.â
âLetâs call a briefing,â Rob said. âI think we need to update everyone, including DI Freeman and his team. Iâll pop upstairs to ask your superintendent if she wants to attend.â
Karen watched as Rob Miller swaggered out of Morganâs office, followed by Olivia. She was tempted to moan about Olivia to Morgan but remembered the superintendentâs words. The best way to handle officers like DI Miller and DC Webster was to show them exactly how capable the Lincolnshire police were.
