Cutoff Position

The factors discussed in the Hijack section are even more important when you are in the Cutoff position. There will be more limpers and few players behind that can cause you trouble. So you should be able to play more hands in the Cutoff and also raise more of them.

Our Chart suggest a playable range from the Cutoff seat should be Group 13 and better in an average Vegas $1/$2 game, a 26.1% range. If we want to raise half of them, we should raise limpers with the top 9 Groups, or about 12.8%. But now the situation is a little less cut-and-dried.

There are hands throughout this range that you can either limp, raise or fold depending on the poker circumstances. So our Chart can only be a general guideline here. If there is only a single limper (or none), you may choose to raise a hand like 77 rather than limp with it; if you don’t think you will have a volume pot with a volume hand, raising may be a better option than a limp.

When you see that the button intends to fold, you might raise with your entire button range if your raise will steal the blinds or get you heads-up in position on the flop.

There are few simple rules in the Cutoff and Button, but let’s try anyway.
