We had a blast at the racetrack, and I honestly wanted to do it every month to blow off some steam… Until I was clued in on how much it cost.

And that was just a best guess.

Wow, everything was a bit too expensive. Seriously. We probably got a discount for the large group and renting everything, but… Wow.

So yeah, it wouldn’t be a monthly thing.

Since I learned that Carter liked me fresh from the shower with the more natural look, I went with minimal makeup, and I diffused my hair with gel to give more of that wet bedhead look. I went with a black, plunging neck, split lantern sleeve ruched bodycon dress and strappy heels.

He was waiting for me leaning against the wall in the hallway outside my door wearing a three-piece slate gray suit without a tie… And looking sexy as fuck. He had a violet shirt on that matched his eyes and a handkerchief in his pocket of the same color. He glanced up and licked his lips, only having one word.

“Wow.”

“Ditto.” I smiled when he offered me his arm, accepting it and the kiss on the cheek he gave me. “So where are we going?”

“Maple & Ash. I was just reading some reviews that the steaks are good, but for the price, good isn’t enough so stick to the other options that shine more.”

“I could go for a nice salmon if that’s on their menu,” I admitted.

“They do, but I also thought the fire-roasted seafood tower.”

“Yes, please.” I didn’t need to be talked into that one.

We went downstairs and out the front where my security and the SUVs were waiting. Carter opened the door for me and got in after me. The drive wasn’t far, and apparently my security was going to hang outside the restaurant or at the bar.

Something they weren’t thrilled about.

“We don’t need them at a table listening in or piping up when they have thoughts,” Carter said.

“But I always have them get tables and eat too,” I argued.

“Yes, and they’re spoiled. You spoil us. They can hang at the damn bar.”

“Meanie,” Sander grumbled. “I like Axel better. He makes sure we have reservations.”

Goofs.

I smothered a laugh and followed after the host when he said our table was ready. We stopped at a four-person table with plush chairs, and I turned to Carter to ask if someone was joining us only to find him holding a chair for me. I glanced around and saw all the cute romantic two-person tables and raised an eyebrow.

He smiled. “I asked for a four-person table since we’ll have more plates, and I know that makes you feel uncomfortable.”

I couldn’t hide my shock. “I’m not sure I knew that made me uncomfortable.” But it did. I was always fidgeting with the plates and trying not to make it obvious. I thanked the host for the menu and sat, letting Carter slide me in. “These chairs are great.”

Carter accepted his menu and sat down, moving a bit in his chair and nodding.
