Chapter 17

“Tom!” Peter yelled. We were both glued to screen number nine.

Tom ran back into the room.

“See that guy?” Peter pointed to the man on screen number nine. “He’s the kidnapper Natalie saw in De Pere.”

Tom dialed once again. “Bart. In that same area as before, there’s a man standing right at the bus stop. He’s Middle Eastern and I’m pretty sure he’s going to run. We think he’s the kidnapper with the prints from the pen and the diplomatic immunity.”

The same man got out of his car and approached the kidnapper. The kidnapper got very defensive and I saw him yelling at the agent. He swung at the man, and another agent got out of the car. As soon as the second agent approached him, the kidnapper ran away, and the two agents ran after him. We watched him go to screen eight then to screen seven. After that, he just disappeared.

“Where did he go?” Tom asked.

I saw the first agent on the monitor put his phone to his ear.

“I have no idea,” Tom answered on the phone call. “He just disappeared. How is that possible? Two of them disappeared at two different places. I want an APB out for that guy too. I don’t care if he has immunity either. I’m really tired of this game.”

I saw Bart, the man on the monitor, nod as he tried to catch his breath. He talked to Tom again, and they both ended their phone calls.

“Do you know who that man was?” I asked Tom.

“I’m fairly sure he’s the guy who touched the pen you found and we know who he is. We want to get a sketch of him, though, from either of you.” He paused for a moment. “I just want to know what’s going on. Why are they both here? Do you think one is chasing the other one?”

“How did you know to bring us to Vegas?” Peter asked him.

“We had word that man would be here, because after we checked his prints on the pen, we knew who he was. He’s the son of a diplomat in D.C. and his name is Nassir Asir. He’s from Saudi Arabia and has diplomatic immunity. We don’t have a lot on him, but we think the blonde woman might be his girlfriend. We don’t have her name yet.”

I needed more information. “Who was the child?”

“Don’t know. We have no identifiable prints from the doll.” Tom wasn’t as helpful as I hoped he would be.

“What about the man in the morgue?” Peter asked him.

“He was here illegally from Saudi Arabia. His name is Akil Madari.”

Peter crossed his arms, watching Tom. “Is he a friend of Nassir’s?”

“Not that we know of. We have very little on him, but have identified the tattoos on his body.” Tom opened his pad of paper, reading his notes. “The first tattoo was for a gang of men from the Middle East, called the Conquerors.”

“Who are they conquering?” I asked.

“No, Natalie,” Tom explained with a grin. “That’s the name of the gang.
