Chapter 26

I found Quinn and Cacey in the library, talking about clothing.

“Tell me I don’t need to wear more gigantic dresses,” I said as I came into the room. It doubled as an office and Cacey had been sitting in the chair behind the desk, but immediately stood and let me take the seat. It was the seat for the person who made the decisions and it felt too big for me, but I took it anyway.

“You don’t have to wear ones like what Prince Queran had made for you,” Quinn said. “And you can wear pants. But you will need new things. If you will set up your own household in the future, you should begin now by making a good impression. For yourself this time instead of for the Prince.”

I rolled my eyes and thunked my head on the desk. “Fine. I need fancy clothes.” I looked up. “Am I going to have to host something for this Solstice event stuff?”

Cacey gave me a sympathetic look. “Likely not. Since you are still part of the Prince’s household, you should not have to host. Plus, all the events tend to take place within the city.”

“Thank fuck. When do these events start?”

“As I explained before,” Quinn said, “the challenges themselves take place on the two days leading up to the Solstice with the final challenge on the day of the Solstice. The revelry takes place for the week leading up to the challenges.”

I did some quick math in my head to figure it out and my blood ran cold. “A full week of parties starting in five days?”

Quinn nodded.

“How many parties do I have to attend to fulfill my deal?”

She shrugged. “That will be up to Prince Queran, I’m afraid.”

I sighed. “Well, shit.”

Cacey assured me the estate’s finances could handle the new wardrobe I’d require. When we finished talking, I went back upstairs to find Rhys lounging on a couch in the huge sitting area. He was reading a book but set it down when I came up. Aiden flew out of the fireplace and landed on the arm of a chair.

“How is the furniture moving going?” I asked him.

“Good. Upstairs is done,” Rhys said, waving at the sitting room. “Ansgar and Mada are just choosing some extra pieces for their room. Then we were going to get something to eat before we started on the main floor. Is everything sorted with you?”

I shook my head. “We’re still working some things out. But it’ll get sorted.”

“Let me know what I can do to help.”

“Me, too,” Aiden said.

I smiled.

Quinn came up the stairs with Ansgar and Mada.

“Someone will need to go to Prince Queran,” she said. “We must know if he expects us to host.”

I nodded. “And how many parties I have to attend. We’ll have to get in touch with Agata as well and request some new fancy clothes for me. I hope there’s enough time.”

As we finished talking, Ronan came out of my bedroom. I introduced him to everyone and then we went down to the dining room to eat.
