60 Learn for Life

Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need.

Colossians 1:10-11 (NLT)

When my husband and sons died, I (Naomi, Ruth’s mother-in-law) was devastated. I was angry and bitter. How could I be so full one day and so empty the next? My family was my life. I lived for them. When my family died, I felt like my life had ended, too.

Although I felt abandoned, I now realize God had not left me. God gave me Ruth to walk beside me. I learned from her to not give up even though our circumstances were not optimal. I learned to look for new opportunities to sustain ourselves when resources ran out. I learned to be open to God’s providence because you just never know what’s around the corner.

Who would have thought I could learn so much from a younger woman? I’m grateful for the journey with Ruth, my daughter-in-law and my teacher.
