Chapter Fifteen:

The black fog was starting to fade as the mystery man stood on the tree stump and overlooked the group of people staring back at him. He was amused by their confused expressions. The man jumped off of the tree stump with as much energy as a little boy. He breathed a sigh of relief as he admired his physique and durability.

“Now that’s something I haven’t been able to do in a long time.” He smiled, looking up at the group. “What? Is no one going to greet me? I have been missing for eighteen years.”

He stepped closer to them, and his features became clearer. So clear, Talia gasped and slapped her hand over her mouth. She cautiously stepped closer to him, pushing her daughter towards Lucas.

“Kade?” she finally asked in disbelief.

The name did not sound familiar to Indy, who stood clueless, exchanging confused expressions with her sister, but they were the only ones who did not recognize the name. Everyone else’s stares shot at Roman.

“The one and only,” Kade answered. His eyes narrowed onto Roman as he tilted his head, waiting for Roman to say something.

But, Roman said nothing. Instead, he stood taller as if he was trying to look bigger. He ignored all the eyes on him and stared down the man staring at him. Indy watched Roman closely, along with everyone. His nostrils flared as he gritted his teeth.

Kade slowly and proudly stepped closer to Roman, so they were only inches apart. Everyone else inched closer. Indy wasn’t sure if it was to see Roman’s reaction to the mysterious man they called Kade or if it was to see what Kade would do. Either way, Indy followed everyone to see.

“I could recognize your mother’s eyes from a mile away,” Kade said to only Roman. “Aren’t you going to give your father a hug?” He opened his arms wide, but he did not get the reaction he was expecting.

Anger and disbelief flooded Roman’s face. All eyes were on him or Kade, but Roman pulled his eyes away from the man calling him his father and found Indy’s eyes. Her eyes kept going between the father-son duo. She did not notice it until it was said, but Roman did look a lot like the man standing in front of him.

Kade was only a couple of years older than Talia. He had dark, short shaggy hair like Roman, but a little grey was coming in on the sides where his scruffy beard was growing in. He was just as pale as his son and just as muscular, if not more. He wore all black, even accessorized with black leather gloves. Their main differences were Roman’s baby blue eyes and his straight nose did not match the man.

Indy’s eyes magnetized to Roman’s as soon as she felt his stare. He gave her a look that begged for an answer on what to do, but she didn’t have an answer for him, so instead, she gave him an encouraging smile to hug the man in front of him.
