The following morning, Toudou and company are eating breakfast in the inn’s dining hall when the girl they just saw last night appears at the door.

Stephenne Veronide. Limis notices before Toudou and pokes her. Toudou glances up.

Stephenne looks flustered, her eyes darting around the room, but when they land on Toudou, she breaks into a smile. They exchange glances, and Toudou looks her over from head to toe. Seeing her again, Toudou still can’t imagine she’s really a priest. Yet, although she didn’t notice yesterday, today she can clearly see that Stephenne has proof of her priesthood hanging from her ear.

Stephenne stumbles between the tables and rushes over to where the party sits. Aria and Limis look irked. When Stephenne arrives directly in front of Toudou, she puts both arms straight down by her side and smiles from ear to ear.

“It’s so nice to meet you, Toudou! Please let me join your party!” No introduction, no explanation, nothing.

Aria and Limis exchange doubtful glances. Neither of them were expecting Stephenne’s request to be so sudden. Even as a member of the same sex, Toudou nearly swoons at Stephenne’s smiling face—she’s cute as hell.

“…I’m sorry. You can’t,” answers Toudou.

As guilty as she feels, she can’t simply deny Aria and Limis. Per Aria’s discussion the day before: Sure, it will be difficult moving forward without a priest. But above all else, we absolutely cannot let Stephenne into the party.

Stephenne must not have expected this refusal. Her smile stiffens, then disappears altogether. Tears instantly well up in her large, dark eyes, and she gives Toudou a look that strikes guilt into her heart.

“But… Wh-wh-why not? Huh?! If you don’t let me in, then… Did I— Was it something I did?!”

“I’m sorry. I’m really sorry… But there’s no way. You just can’t.”

Toudou puts her hand over her aching heart and says it once more.
