“I don’t think he had anything to do with Devlin’s death.” Anna said as she slipped the sandals off of her aching feet. She breathed a sigh of relief as she sat in the car and fretted about inside her vanity bag. She made up her mind never to wear her sandals again while she was on this case. You never knew what the day would bring.

“I agree,” Benjamin confirmed, watching with a furtive glance from the side as Anna massaged her aching bare feet.

“Should we have asked him about the children’s bodies?” Anna pondered.

“I thought about asking him. But he would have told us something if he knew anything about it. I think it is better not to spread the news too much until we have more clues.”

“You’re afraid it might have something to do with the Tuam children?” Anna asked.

“I don’t know but the instructions from Dublin is that we avoid the subject until we know for sure that it is related to Devlin’s murder.”

“Hmm.. can you please drive me to Eyeries now? I want to go home. I’m so tired.”

She sensed that Benjamin wanted to say something, but something held him back at the last moment. It was better that way, she thought. Confronting the thought of whether she could forgive him enough to go out for another beer with him would have overwhelmed her at the moment. She was far too exhausted to worry about it.
