Chapter Eight
Cole
CADE WAS asleep, his head in Coleâs lap. He ran his fingers through Cadeâs curls, over and over, in an attempt to soothe himself, to convince himself Cade was really there. His head was still spinning with all the information Cade laid on him earlier. The only thing making even remotely sense was how much Cade meant to him.
âAre you alright?â
Cole glanced up, meeting Graceâs concerned eyes. He nodded and glanced back down at Cadeâs face. He felt the couch dip as Grace sat down next to him.
âYouâre not,â she said.
He sighed. âNo. Did you honestly expect me to be?â
âNot really,â she said, shaking her head. âBut I need you to promise me something.â
Cole glanced up, frowning at the serious expression on her face.
Graceâs voice was thick with emotion when she said, âPlease, donât leave my brother.â
He blinked at her for a moment before he managed to ask, âWhy would I leave him?â
Grace looked down at her hands. âThereâs still a lot you donât know. But you have his heart, Cole. Donât break it.â
Cole didnât know what to say to that, so he just nodded. A groan made him glance down at Cade who was blinking his eyes and mumbling under his breath. Something about a needle and a Ferris wheel. He helped Cade sit up. He had bed hair and it was all Coleâs doing.
âHow are you feeling?â Cole asked, taking in Cadeâs pale face.
Before Cade could answer, Shadow walked into the living room, saying, âMy patient is awake. Howâs the pain?â
âNot as bad as I thought it would be,â Cade said, his voice rough. âWe need to go to Seattle. Thatâs where Richard is.â
âIsnât this where the CIA is supposed to step in?â Cole asked, looking between Cade and Shadow.
Shadow shook his head, raising his hands as he shrugged. âDonât look at me. Iâm just here to keep Cade safe.â
âYou donât have to come but I need to go. I need to stop him. Preferably before he goes after my family,â Cade said to Cole. âI didnât leave everything behind just to have him kill them anyway.â
Cade looked at Cole with pleading eyes. Facing off with an arms dealer on your own was a bad fucking idea any given day, but Richard also wanted something from Cade. Cole would never let him go alone. He reached for Cadeâs hand. âOkay. But we do it my way.â Cole glanced around at his brothers. âWe do it the Black Raiders way.â
âThank you,â Cade said.
Cole smiled and squeezed Cadeâs hand.
âWe canât fly. Heâs got people everywhere. Especially now that heâs already lost me once. Weâre gonna have to drive to Seattle,â Cade said.
âNot necessarily.â
âWhat did you do?â Cade crossed his arms over his chest, wincing as the move mustâve pulled at his stitches.
âI may or may not have an airplane stowed away somewhere,â Cole said, a smile playing on his lips.
Axel shot out of his seat and pointed an accusing finger at him. âYou stole a thirty million dollar military aircraft? You crazy bastard.
