Gabby

Sighing irritably, she closed the web browser detailing the internet traffic to and from Antoine’s IP. She wasn’t truly surprised there hadn’t been anything to find. Likely, it was either a copycat, or someone was baiting her. Again.

Valya should have never known that name, and it was more than a bit disturbing that he did. Someone pounding on her door startled her from her thoughts.

“Gabby, open up. It’s Sean.”

Grinning happily, she hurried to the door and threw back the security bolt, but the smile faded at the expression on his face. A sheen of sweat decorated his brow, and his lips were pressed into a thin line as he scanned the corridor.

“What’s wrong? Did something happen?”

“We’ll talk about it later. I need you to come with me now. Get your shoes.”

“I…okay. Let me change first.”

“Right now, Gabby. Get your shoes, or you can go barefoot.”

“Sean!” She crossed her arms over her chest and refused to budge. “I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what’s going on. What’s gotten into you?”

A muscle worked in his jaw, and he breathed out through his nose. “I won’t repeat myself. Get. Your. Shoes.”

She threw her hands into the air and stomped to her closet for a pair of flats. “This had better be good.”

“It’s not,” he snapped, making her flinch. “It sucks. Let’s go.”

Keeping a wary eye on him, she stepped into the hall, unsurprised when he grabbed her arm and tugged her close. He was acting as if they were right back where they started when she first arrived at Club Apocalypse, and she didn’t understand why.

He knew all her secrets and hadn’t flinched. She’d let him…

Firmly, she pushed the memory of their activities on the roof out of her head. If he wanted the return of their mutual animosity, he could have it.

And she wouldn’t give a single moment’s thought to how much it would hurt.

They exited the lift, and he walked faster, making her jog to keep up. “Where are you taking me?” she finally asked.

“The dungeon.” When she tried to plant her feet, he grunted sourly and swung her into his arms.

“Sean…” She kept her voice calm in an effort to control her temper, but she had no intention of obeying his orders. “I do not consent to this.”

He stopped abruptly and nearly stumbled, then set her on her feet and rubbed a hand over his face. “Shit. I’m sorry, Gabby. I know how this must look, but it’s really important. Can you trust me?”

After studying him for a moment, she nodded. “Why the dungeon?”

“It’s complicated.”

“Sean, there’s nothing complex about a bondage dungeon. I don’t understand what you mean.”

“Daniel’s here, and he—”

“Why didn’t you say so?” Leaving him behind, she used her keycard to open the door.

“Gabby, wait!” He tried to catch her, but she slipped free and pushed the curtain aside.

“Daniel, it’s good to see you.” She strode to him and kissed his cheek, then hugged Vivia. “And Vivia, you look gorgeous. We haven’t spoken in ages.”

“Sì. We must get together with Ella the next time we’re all in Italy,” Vivia replied, smiling at her.
