Chapter Eight

I looked at Dom, saw the strength in his eyes, and sucked in a steady breath. I could handle this. I could deal with this and use this power for good, though I had no way to figure out how to harness any of it.

A hand covered mine, and I instinctively interlaced my fingers through the long ones that were helping me steady everything in my overwhelmed brain.

“You’re not a bomb, and you’re not in danger. I’ve got you, Jen,” Dom said. “Let’s see if the witch—” He stopped himself and brought his stunning grin to the young witch standing silently next to Lusa, “Sahvannah, do you think you can shield her?”

“I’m going to have to shield both of you. Your physical connection is putting off majorly powerful auras.” Her eyebrows knit together, “Dang, you two.” She smiled, and her caramel-colored eyes lit up the flawless, chocolate skin on her face. “How are you handling this? I’ve never heard of two fated mates being this in tune and strongly connected, and I’ve certainly never heard of it happening at this age. It’s got to be the fairy or witch in Jenna. This is wild.”

“Can we get back to shielding this before the school hunts us all down?”

“True,” Lusa chimed in, looking at Sahvannah with a sweet smile. “Dom’s wolf ran that bear shifter off who was sent in to rescue Jenna from her injury, now we’re all gone, and God only knows where E went. We need to get this going.”

“Okay, I need to teleport out of here, and if I’m not back within fifteen minutes, head back to the school. They can sense when I teleport, and they can use magic to bring me back. I may have some powers outside of what the school teaches, but the stronger witch professors at the school can lock it down at any time.”

“Wait,” I dropped Dom’s hand and walked toward Sahvannah, “What happens if something goes wrong? I get a weird sense that none of us know what the hell we’re doing. If something happens, could it screw up the connection Dom and I have?”

“Shit,” Dom said, prompting me to look back at his expression, “Jen’s right. If things go south for any reason, can you reverse the spell? I know how bad my wolf will suffer, and it’s half of what Jenna’s will feel. I’m not going to put her in a position to suffer for even a second.”

“God, Dom.” Lusa let out a laugh of disbelief, “I didn’t think you really had it in you to care about anyone else. Crazy to hear you talk like this, and especially to see that it was Jenna who was meant for you.”

“Don’t get all mushy on us yet, Sahvannah hasn’t answered us,” I said, looking at the defeated witch. “You have no answers, do you?”

“I don’t.” She sighed, “But I feel like this is why I was drawn to you.”

“You’re a witch,” Dom’s voice elevated in frustration. “Witches don’t go off of feelings.
