Everyone is just looking to have a good time and be entertained. There may be some with a few deep, philosophical problems on their minds, but these are going to be the minority, and it will be easy to move them away from such brooding thoughts if you are offering some good entertainment. Use this fact as a way to get past your jitters, if you have some degree of social anxiety. At the end of the day, people just want to have a good time. Offer some content in your conversations that will make people laugh, and you’ve won a big part of the game. Involved others in your humor and gauge what the personalities are around you in order to clue you in on the type of humor that will be successful. For example, if you are speaking to lots of people of an older generation, you probably don’t want to start cracking jokes about the latest social media meme going viral, as they might not know what you’re talking about, or worse, dismiss you as just another silly kid. Take what you’ve learned from each individual when you introduced yourself and use this information when you are creating conversation topics. All of the same rules apply like we talked to above. Use people’s names as often as possible and open up opportunities for people to talk about themselves.
