Chapter Eleven

Lindsay hadn’t been looking forward to going to the police station to talk about the murder, but between knowing she should, and wanting to tell them about what had happened at the hotel with Joel, or whatever his name was, she knew she had to get it done, and she was glad she did.

Since the body had been found with identification, her next of kin had been notified, and her name wasn’t a secret anymore. While the news was good that they were able to identify her, the news about who she was wasn’t exactly what Lindsay had wanted to hear. The death of anyone was unfortunate, and while the victim wasn’t someone that Lindsay knew directly, it was someone that she’d met. Whitney Moore, one of the women that had come a day early to the party.

Lindsay explained who they were and how she knew them. She didn’t leave out the information about how Whitney’s husband wasn’t the most pleasant of men, either. The police were kind and as informative as they could be about the murder. She knew the killer hadn’t been caught, but she felt safe knowing the police were actively investigating.

Before she left, once everything murder related was covered, Lindsay said she wanted to talk to someone about what had happened at the hotel. She explained everything from seeing the police cars on the night she came home from the airport to seeing the male figure on her parent’s street and even at the Halloween party. They told her there was no way to be sure that it was the same person either of those times, and perhaps not even the same man from the hotel, however, they agreed that it was suspicious and highly likely that the man she’d had breakfast with, was the one who had stolen her credit card. The officer she’d spoken to instructed her to contact her credit card company if she hadn’t already and tell them what happened so they could cancel her card and check for fraudulent charges. After filling out a police report, the officer reminding her to be extra careful of her surroundings and that if she ever thought that anyone was following her again, to drive directly to the police station, Lindsay was on her way with the promise they’d look into everything for her.

Seeing Wednesday was next on her list, and she couldn’t have thought of a better way to take a breather. Cuddling the furry, little kitten was like therapy. She texted Trace to let him know that she was on her way, driving directly to his house.

“I’m not gonna spoil your day and tell you that Wednesday didn’t miss you, but…” Trace began, pointing to the dog bed on the floor.

Lindsay raised a brow, not seeing what Trace was trying to show her. “Where is she?”

Buster, Trace’s black and white Great Dane, was lounging in his bed, sprawled out in what looked to be a very uncomfortable position. Lindsay thought the dog looked adorable but still wasn’t catching on.
