Chapter Three
Chris stood there in the doorway, looking smug and amused as he slowly clapped his hands. âBravo, Valentine. If Iâd known you had all that in you, I might have taken you to my bed and fucked you silly long ago.â
âCringle!â
âDonât look so pissed off, Cupid.â Chris said his title with a sneer in his voice. âAfter all, Iâm the one who should be angry. You stole into my private stock of wassail, you naughty boy, and you stole what was mine.â
âIt was just a bottle --â
âYes, she is.â He chuckled. âBottled, that is. But then you had to go and unleash her and, whatâs more, you fucked her, Cupid. Itâs bad form to indulge in anotherâs⦠shall we say, wine?â
With a flick of Chrisâs fingers, Cupidâs kilt was flung into his face. âClothe yourself. Even I canât take too much pleasure in the sight of your limp dick and your trembling lower lip. Was it that good, Cupid?â
âYou should know.â Valentine narrowed his eyes at Chris as he fastened his kilt around his waist. He stared at his most hated enemy as he flexed his shoulders and pulled his wings back into his back.
âNo, I would not.â Chris stepped into the room and leered at him. âShe was meant to be a gift to someone, but now that gift is spoiled.â He opened his hand, and the teardrop bottle containing Valentineâs⦠containing Rose dropped neatly into his palm.
Valentine couldnât stop himself from reaching for her, desperation in his eyes for one moment, before he covered it up with a mask of indifference. Maybe Chris hadnât noticed.
âShe must have been very good. You want her back.â
âI --â
âDonât deny it, Valentine. We both know itâs true. You want little⦠Rose, is it? Thatâs what you named her? You want Rose back.â
Valentine held his tongue even though his heart was racing and he couldnât help but stare at Chrisâs hand, the one that gripped his Rose.
âYou donât have to say anything.â Chris chuckled. âBut I will make you an offer.â
Valentine forced himself to look into Chrisâs twinkling eyes⦠and he fought the urge to call forth one of his arrows and plunge one right through one of those twinkling orbs.
âI think a little Christmas Cheer is needed, donât you? How about a nice little Christmas in February campaign? Nothing much, really. You will still get all the worshipers you need, but if we add a little Christmas to the festivities, we both can reap the rewards. Just imagine all the cute little ornaments they will make -- me and you, red and white, side by side, expanding my power base. If you agree, you can have your little Rose back. Otherwise, Iâm sure I can feed this little drop of wine into my Yule log and watch her burn. Nothing like the spirits to keep a cheery fire going. So, Valentine -- Cupid.â He held the tear encasing Rose to his eyes, stared at Valentine through the red of his perfect lover.
