Countess Intransigent

The Spike, Elyse System, 268 Light-years from Sol

Anastasia stood at the holo table towards the back of her bridge. She poured over the maps of the Accord’s progress, and the overall impression she got was a good one. They were making ground in several theatres of battle, and in a couple, they were just rolling over the Nexus forces. The Templar’s were defeated, and if all went to plan, the Dimande would be next.

Anastasia predicted that if the Dimande Dynasty fell, then it would mark the end of the Nexus, and the Accord would march to victory.

This was all good news, but Anastasia was troubled.

She’d just had word that Amanda was about to make her way to Dia and offer them aid. This in itself did not worry her. Amanda’s intervention against the full might of the Accord forces would be nothing. She’d need to bring in several Battle Fleets’ worth of forces to stand a chance.

Let her come. Let her think she was helping. Anastasia knew better. But Anastasia didn’t want Amanda swanning around the front lines, trying to help the pitiful idiots of the Nexus.

Anastasia wanted the Demiurge. In truth, she couldn’t care less about the Nexus war. It wasn’t important to her at all. It was a distraction both for her, and a way to keep the Nexus distracted from the Crux as they grew in power.

It was a way of instigating a little chaos as she went about the business of building her power, and the Demiurge was the next step. It was possible that she could head over to Crux space herself and try to find and free the Demiurge, but that was risky. The Archons and the Crux were formidable foes, and as strong as she was, she didn’t feel confident facing off against several Archons. Maybe if she’d consumed the Demiurge, then maybe, but there was no way of knowing if she’d manage to do that in time.

No, there were smarter ways of working.

“My Baal,” Sapphira called out from elsewhere on the bridge. “I’ve just received word that you are required for a meeting.”

Anastasia sighed. “Wonderful. The usual, is it?”

“Correct.”

“Very well. I won’t be long,” Anastasia replied and worked her Magic. With a snap, she Ported down to the upper levels of the Spike. She passed through several Aegises she knew the key for, appearing just inside the main meeting room, and knew immediately she was the last to arrive.

She wondered if that was intentional.

She spotted the usual fleet admirals for all the Dynasties stood around the table. These military leaders were at most of the meetings and directed the forces of their respective Dynasties. The Dynasty leaders were almost always back on their capital worlds, preferring to keep away from the front line.

This time was a little different though, as Anastasia spotted Countess Vexa Wraxleith straight away, leaning on the Holo table and staring at her. The countess let a thin smile curl the corner of her lips as Anastasia approached the table.
