Thirty-minutes later, there was a knock on the door.

Chance reached for his gun, and I instinctively moved toward the kitchen. It was sad how we were both trained to fear every little sound. Even something as simple as a knock on the front door.

Chance peered out of the peephole and then put his gun back in his waistband. Opening the door, I spotted a very pregnant Gia and Solly. It had been years since I had seen either one of them, but for the most part, they both looked the same. Solly was more buff, and Gia looked less severe. Maybe motherhood would tame her.

“Why the fuck did you make us come all the way up here?” Gia roared out.

Maybe motherhood wasn’t going to tame her after all.

Solly just shook his head and laughed as he admired his wife. I never understood those two, but their love somehow works, I guess.

“You need the exercise, Gia,” Chance goaded, poking at her large baby bump.

Gia swatted him away as she rolled her eyes. “I’m going to train this baby to be so mean to its uncle.”

“So, what’s the plan, boss?” Solly asked Chance.

Chance nodded his head toward me and then suddenly, all of them were looking my way. There was a strange tension hanging in the air. We were sworn enemies; our families over the years had killed one another and yet, here we were together like a twisted sort of family.

“You all are going to take Sawyer shopping. Vince took all of her money and left her with nothing. Bring her straight back here when you are finished. I should be home around the same time as you all get back. I need to get eyes on Vince,” Chance stated.

Gia sighed as she stared at me. Flashes of emotions seemed to cross her features as she looked at me.

“Alright, come on, Sawyer,” Gia said, moving toward the front door.

Solly followed closely behind her, and I stood there unsure of what to do.

“Go on, I promise you will be safe with them,” Chance told me.

He seemed worried that Vince was nowhere to be found. I appreciated his concern.

“Ok. Please let me know if you find Vince,” I pleaded with him.

“I will. Now, go on and spend my money,” Chance chuckled.
