I don’t know how Aakash, Kumi, and I convinced Surpanakha to let us attend the trial. Honestly, she probably wouldn’t have let us go if Professor Ravan hadn’t intervened on our behalf. In fact, I’m sure he would have come with us if he wasn’t still recovering from his illness. I think it was something about us being the three royalty contestants as well. That said, no one else from the school was given permission to come. So my fantasy of storming Arko and Chandni’s trial with an army of angry, chanting Ghatatkach rakkhosh students demanding my friends’ freedom didn’t exactly come to fruition. In fact, I kind of got the impression Surpanakha was just trying to get us to stop bothering her when she let us go.

“I can’t believe the headmistress didn’t want to come help herself,” I said to my friends as we flew toward the market. Kumi and I were on helicocrocs, Aakash was flying on his own power, and I was providing flame lamps to guide our way. “I mean, with all her big-big talk about the revolution.”

“Remember, she asked us specifically to keep a low profile, disguise ourselves in human form when we get there,” said Kumi from the back of her flying monster. “The headmistress is responsible for keeping all the kids at our school safe, so I’m not sure she’s ready to declare some kind of all-out, open war against the Serpent Empire just yet.”
