Row 8 (10, 12, 14): With WS facing, join next color yarn with sl st in blo of first dc, ch 3 (counts as dc), sk first dc, dc in blo of next 58 dc, hdc in blo of next hdc, sc in blo of next 19 sc. End off – 79 sts.
Rows 8–30 (10–36, 12–40, 14–46): Rep rows 7–8 (9–10, 11–12, 13–14) appropriate number of times, then rep Row 7 (9, 11, 13) once more, changing color at beg of each row and following color sequence. Hold piece up to body. Keeping in mind that 5 (7, 9, 11) more rows will be worked and piece will stretch because of sts being worked in blo, add or remove rows (in increments of 2 rows) as needed to fit your body.
Row 31 (37, 41, 47): (Rows for other strap) With RS facing, join next color yarn with sl st in blo of first sc, ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 8 chs (9 sc on strap), sc in blo of same sc as joining, sc in blo of next 18 sc, hdc in blo of next hdc, dc in blo of next 59 dc. End off – 88 sts.
Rows 32–35 (38–43, 42–49, 48–57): Rep rows 2 and 3, 2 (3, 4, 5) times more, changing color at beg of each row and following color sequence.

Work in same color sequence as front.
With A, ch 80. For a longer top, add same number of beg chs as on front.
Row 1: (WS) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 18 chs, hdc in next ch, dc in next 59 chs. End off; turn – 79 sts (19 sc, 1 hdc and 59 dc).
Row 2: With RS facing, join B with sl st in blo of first dc, ch 3 (counts as dc), sk first dc, dc in blo of next 58 dc, hdc in blo of next hdc, sc in blo of next 19 sc. End off – 79 sts.
Row 3: ith WS facing, join C with sl st in blo of first sc, ch 1, sc in blo of same sc as joining, sc in blo of next 18 sc, hdc blo of next hdc, dc in blo of next 59 dc. End off; turn – 79 sts.
Rows 4–35 (43, 49, 57): Rep rows 2 and 3 appropriate number of times, changing color at beg of each row and following color sequence (A–E).
side and shoulder seams
With RS tog, match up sts at side of front and back (first and last rows). Place safety pins along edges to hold in place. Beg at bottom st, sew seam up to st number 48 (or to 12th dc below hdc if top is longer) with matching yarn and yarn needle, but do not secure or end off. Rep on other side. With RS tog, match up 5 (7, 9, 11) rows at shoulder strap, and sew back shoulder seam with yarn and yarn needle. Turn top RS out and try it on to make sure the armholes fit.
