CHAPTER FIVE

– COLT –

I’ve roamed around for years in this fucked-up world. Seen with my own eyes how people slaughter one another for reasons unknown, or simply follow orders because you’ve been sent oversees to fight for your country.

It fucked my head up and made me distance myself from people due to the constant darkness absorbing my thoughts. Nonstop fighting my sorrows and falling asleep for an hour or two before waking up in a cold sweat.

I’m absolutely stunned to say those days are over. The darkness roaming around in my head is by no means completely gone, but it’s somewhat subdued. And holding my woman at night–her warmth seeping into me–allows my whole being the level of calmness I need to sleep for a few hours on end. Waking up each day feeling refreshed is a new phenomenon and I owe it all to her.

I’m leaning against the doorjamb, sipping my first cup of coffee, on this early morning. Kadence is still sleeping, curled up in the blankets and looking ever so stunning with her dark red hair spread out over her pillow.

A hint of her curvy ass is exposed but the rest of her delicious body is covered. My cock twitches with the reminder of being buried deep inside her. Another element this woman has brought into my life; the craving of never having enough of something so damn sweet.

My phone indicates a message and when I check I see it’s a text from Weston. He needs me and Kadence in church around ten. We’ve had a few meetings over the last few days and while I was the one who set a plan into motion, it’s Weston, Roper, and Alfie who have taken over.

I don’t mind since it gives me the room to spend more time with my woman. Teaching her how to ride has been rewarding for the both of us and it’s another shared passion between us. We match in every way and even if I held her at a distance for so long because I’m eight years older than her, it’s all moot now.

There’s simply no stopping what’s meant to be. And that’s just it. There’s also no stopping to face the issue that’s still preventing us from roaming around freely. But Alfie informed me yesterday how Weston has taken steps to put it all behind us.

Seeing as the both of us are needed in church later, I’d say we’re done hiding and everyone will now see, and know, Kadence is right where she belongs; by my side. I mentally cringe when I think about facing my sister, Kadence’s best friend.

She’s going to be pissed we withheld the fact that Kadence has been with me all along. Even though it was done for the safety of all of us, she wouldn’t care. But I’m hoping the whole claiming my woman and making them sisters-in-law part will smooth things over.

“Hey,” Kadence croaks. “Got any coffee for me?”

I push away from the doorjamb and stalk to the bed to place a kiss on her forehead.
