James was tired when he got home, but as usual, when he had his mind set on something, he wanted to see it through until the end.

With a determined stride, he climbed the stairs to the portal room on the second floor of his house. The room had undergone quite a transformation. The two original gateways stood in their usual spots, while two brand-new archways had been meticulously constructed on the other side of the room. The craftsmanship was exquisite, with ornate details carved into the wood.

James took a deep breath, drawing in the faint scent of fresh wood that still hung in the air. He could feel the anticipation building within him, like a coiled spring waiting to be released. Now it was finally time to cast the Gateway spell on the new archways.

He approached the first of the new archways and closed his eyes, concentrating on the image of Lucy’s house above the general store. He could see it clearly in his mind’s eye: the cozy living room, the knickknacks everywhere, and the portal in the small storage room.

As he focused on the image of Lucy’s home, he felt his mana begin to rise within him, like a wave swelling in the ocean. Taking a deep breath, he firmly affirmed his intent, and as the mana crested within him, he spoke the magic words.

“Vanealders tod heer.

“Brengang, bestansvlack. Rhuimte.

“Vanealders tod heer.

“Danoock, vanlefansthing tod heerlefand.

“Brengang, bestandvlack. Lefan.

“Vanlefansthing tod heerlefand.”

The air around the archway seemed to tremble, as if agitated by some unseen force. Then, with a sudden rush, a shimmering surface appeared within the arch, like a window into another realm. James stared at it in wonder, his heart pounding in his chest.

Best to test it right away, he thought.

Taking a deep breath, he stepped through the shimmering surface of the archway, feeling a slight tingling sensation as he passed through the magical barrier.

James blinked in surprise as he found himself standing in Lucy’s storage space, just as he had envisioned it. The door stood ajar, offering a view of the hallway that led to her living room, the luxurious bathroom, and her bedroom. He felt a surge of joy and triumph at his success, like a victorious conqueror standing atop a hard-won battlefield.

But he knew he could not linger; there was still much work to be done. Suppressing the urge to call out to Lucy and share his excitement, he stepped back through the portal, emerging once more in the portal room of his own home.

The room seemed to hum with quiet approval, as if acknowledging his success. James allowed himself a small, satisfied grin as he turned his attention to the second new archway. This time, he envisioned Jackie’s garage: the smell of engine oil, the gleam of polished chrome, and the portal tucked away in the unused storeroom.

Once more, he felt his mana welling up within him, and he knew he must act quickly. With a clear image in his mind and his intent firmly set, he spoke the magic words of his Gateway spell.
