Lucas.
Annoyingly, my visit with my father had been pointless. Iâd mustered up the courage to see him, and heâd been absolutely useless. So much for being a renowned warlock and Area Enforcer.
I sat at my laptop, scribbling down notes as I tried to study, but my mind kept floating back to the scene with my father.
I stood on the steps to my childhood home, having magicked myself over the towering gates and walls that set the property apart from many others. Why my father had insisted on walling the whole place off was beyond me. Maybe he just wanted to prove he had the money for such an expenditure.
The mansion was always something Iâd never questioned, but in recent years I wondered why we had such a huge home. There had only been the four of us, and despite my father insisting on a butler being present, along with maids, Iâd never allowed myself to be tended to. Iâd always made my own food when needed unless it was a family dinner, and I used magic to clean my own room.
I contemplated magicking the door open and strolling right on in, even finding myself smirking at the idea.
Instead, I raised my hand to knock on the door.
The fancy white wooden door with hand-carved designs swung open before I got the chance.
âWhat brings you crawling back?â
Sometimes I wish I couldâve been blessed with a brother, so I could punch him in the face.
âI need to speak with the Area Enforcer,â I growled at my sister as she blocked the doorway with one perfectly manicured hand.
She smirked out at me, her blonde locks done up in a high bun and those emerald eyes popping with the smokey eye makeup she wore.
To be honest, I could do the look even better.
But that hideous lime green dress was doing her no favors. I swear she sucked with fashion sometimes.
âI doubt dad will want to see you,â she shrugged.
âItâs about a student at the uni, I need to speak with him in a business manner,â I struggled not to shout at her. I hated her so much sometimes. There was no sibling love shared between us.
âNo,â she pursed her lips, giving me a delightedly look as she began closing the door.
My sister may be the chosen child, but she was nowhere near as strong as me. She was merely a high-powered witch, considering how warlocks were only ever male.
I blasted the door open with a torrent of air, knocking that prissy little bitch to the floor as she shrieked.
I smiled down at her as she struggled to stand in her silver heels. She huffed and scowled at me.
âDonât mess with me, sis,â I muttered as I moved past her into the foyer. I headed down the hall and turned into the first door on my right, where my fatherâs study was. He would surely be there.
âYou shouldnât be so nasty to your sister.â
Of course those were his first words towards me as I strode right up to his mahogany desk and stood opposite him.
