Chapter Twenty-One

DRAGON’S MOON

Week Two, Day Four

Year 3000

Sachi didn’t want to wake up.

She was having the best dream, one where she was cradled in warmth. Surrounded by soft curves and hard muscles, and every way she turned, there was nothing but the delicious slide of skin over skin.

A low chuckle tickled her ear. “As tempted as I am to let you keep going, Princess, it doesn’t seem entirely sporting.”

A strong hand caught her fingers, which had been gliding over firm muscle, and tugged it up. When she opened her eyes, it was to the sight of Ash smiling as he brushed a teasing kiss to the backs of her fingers.

She wasn’t dreaming.

In a breathless rush, she remembered—Zanya sparring with Ash and coming back to the cabin practically vibrating with confusion and a need Sachi wasn’t sure her lover even recognized.

Then Zanya calling Ash to their bed.

“Good morning,” Sachi whispered. She wasn’t sure what else to say, what the boundaries were in this situation. If it was a stolen moment of time . . . or the beginning of something she didn’t have the words to define.

Behind her, Zanya made a grumpy noise and snuggled her face more deeply against Sachi’s shoulder. “Of all the mornings for you to wake up early. It’s still dark outside, and it’s very warm in this bed.”

“My sincerest apologies, Zan. I know you abhor early mornings. But I think my brain realized something beautiful was happening and didn’t want to miss it.”

Zanya huffed, but her lips traced a soft kiss to the back of Sachi’s shoulder. “I should have warned the Dragon about your wandering hands.”

“Ash,” he corrected in a low rumble. He smiled at Sachi and nipped at her fingertips. “And why am I not surprised she has busy hands?”

“Intelligent hands.” Sachi pulled free of Ash’s grip and resumed her journey over his abdomen. “They know when they have places to be.”

It was Zanya who thwarted her this time, chuckling at Sachi’s impatient noise as she twined their fingers together and nudged Sachi onto her back, gently but firmly pinning her hand above her head. “Aren’t you impatient this morning? Don’t either of us get a kiss first?”

Her teasing tone made Sachi’s chest ache a little. She hadn’t realized just how much she’d felt pulled between the two of them until Zanya had invited Ash into their bed. It felt right, warm and comfortable, but with a sharp edge of need that smoldered like a banked fire, ready to be stirred into full flame.

And there, hidden beneath those smoking coals, was joy. She could have this. They could have this.

Ash’s hand found her chin, tilting her face toward his. His eyes were more molten copper than pure flames this morning, and his expression was one of pure wonder. “You’re not afraid today, Princess.”

“No, I’m not.” With the two of them so close, all around her, there was no room for anything else.

“Good,” he murmured, then kissed her.

It wasn’t a soft kiss, but Sachi didn’t want one.
