Chapter 14

Second Time’s the Charm

As soon as I was able to transport within my mindscape again, I moved immediately to my control room.

Six Shauns turned to look at me with utter bewilderment. I looked past them, out of the viewing screen. We were hurtling through space. I’d fucking made it back. Not as far back as I would have liked, but what an opportunity to make a difference in this battle.

“I’m from the future, and you guys need to listen to me.”

They all looked at each other. I could see the doubt in their eyes, so I attempted to put myself in their place, then gave up and went to the Cerebral Interface and selected Pandemonium. They dashed over to me, uncertain whether to stop me or not.

Main Shaun appeared looking bewildered. “Who the fuck put Pandemonium in?”

He caught sight of me and looked even more confused. “Where did you come from? Have we leveled Army of the Mind again? What the hell’s going on?”

“I’m from one thousand three hundred years and six months in the future, though I was unconscious for one thousand three hundred of those years. I could tell more, but I think it’s best if I just take over from here.”

“No fucking way,” old me snapped. “Are you God Shaun?”

I shrugged. “No, but the information I have is too important to lose. I need to merge with you. You’ll still be exactly the same, but you’ll know loads of interesting shit about the future and about how the entire galaxy is destroyed, including Ember and our unborn child,” I said, quickly moving towards him.

“You really expect me to trust some rando other Shaun who pops in my mind and says he’s from the future?”

“I’m in your mindscape, and you didn’t detect an invasion, nor did your Omni Shield flare up, so I can’t be anything but you. I just turned Pandemonium on, for fuck’s sake. Who else would know how to do that?”

“Fuck. That’s actually a really good answer.”

“Yeah it is. Honestly, you won’t lose yourself, but you do need this knowledge.”

“You can give me the knowledge, but you aren’t taking over,” he said.

“If you have all the knowledge, I won’t need to take over because you will kind of be me.”

“You’re not really like God Shaun.”

“Yeah, I’m not that prick yet. Come on,” I said desperately. “We need to do this quick. Time’s running out for Havok.”

“Havok? Okay, I’ll do it. What do we need to do?”

“I… I’m not actually sure,” I said, putting my hands on his shoulders about to force my memories into him, but as soon as I touched him I became him.

“Pandemonium!” I screamed. “You look after our axe, you hear me? Infuse him.”

Pandemonium did as I asked, and the other Shauns stared out of the window as Havok now whooped with glee. He had become larger and far more deadly, and Pandemonium was now making short work of the surrounding ships. Which was great, but he was supposed to be on the surface at this stage rescuing the others.
