There is no creature more dangerous to our future than the one confident in her ignorance.
~ The Elder Orian - Elder Dragon Chronicles
The group sat upon the large cushion once again the following morning. Ulryth was nowhere to be seen, though the Drake that led them to the chamber assured them he would join them shortly.
They conversed quietly amongst themselves. As they recalled what theyâd been told and the visions theyâd seen, they tried to compare notes of what theyâd learned versus all theyâd been taught earlier. Much of had their previous knowledge had huge gaps, but with all they learned, it felt more complete.
After a while, they fell into silence as they waited. Most sat ruminating on the more complete picture of Mythniumâs history. Only Orinus and Virconia seemed restless, as though the revised education ignited a need to return to Mythos. Just as Orinus and Virconia were about to get up to expend their pent-up energy, there was a commotion outside the door.
The door slid open on a large wooden track. Ulryth stepped through followed by a large purple dragon. Behind them, escorted by three other dragons, came a red dragon, large, but not nearly as large as the others. Finally, at the back of the procession came a small blue dragon, not much taller than Estryl.
The red dragon appeared ready to fight, a wildness in its eyes betraying fear and distrust. Immediately, the group got to their feet, ready to run for safety if need be.
Ulryth and the purple dragon approached the group.
With hearts as one, said Ulryth. I apologize for the commotion. Allow me to introduce my son, Valdry. He leads a squad of Imperial Dragons that monitor the southern reaches of our realm.
Valdry bowed low but remained silent while his father continued. He has found and captured these two dragons, who came to us from Mygras.
âMygras!â exclaimed Orinus, âbut how?â
Ulryth shook his head, anger touching his eyes as he said, The White Lord.
Silence fell over the room until the blue dragon stepped forward and said, Yes. The White Lord, but Libitina helped me escape.
There was a pleading tone to the little dragonâs statement, but Ulryth and Valdry both snapped their heads to observe the blue.
Ulryth breathed in a sharp breath before he said, Little one, youâre here to learn as well. Remember youâre about to meet the eldest of our kind. They, and our guests, demand your respect.
The blue raised its head proudly. I know. I remember.
Ulryth gave a sharp nod of his head. The blue dragon moved to a cushion near the red dragon who stood strangely still between the three other dragons.
Ulryth approached the red. He stared her down and said, Libitina is the name the White Lord gave you, but you have another name. Maybe today will help you decide which name you will live under.
The red dragon glared at him but offered no response.
Orinus picked up on the silence and asked, âHas she been muted?â
Valdry took a cushion on the other side of the red dragon and said, She has.
