A Look Back Through Our Files...

—Thirty-Two Years Ago—

July 15,1965

Most of the damage from last year’s severe June flood has now been repaired. The Flathead River peaked at thirteen feet above flood stage on June 9, 1964. Only Hungry Horse Dam kept it from more dangerous devastation. Out of crisis, heroics are often found, and our own Melvin H. Ruder’s Pulitzer Prize in journalism for general local reporting attests to that fact.

A display of Mr. Ruder’s photography of the flood damage, as well as his Pulitzer certificate from the trustees of Colombia University, New York City, are now on display at city hall.
