CASSIDY

“I wish you didn’t have to go,” Sienna says, looking sad when I tell her I have to head home.

I smile softly. No need to make a scene.

I’ve overstayed my welcome. It’s been almost three weeks, and I have to get back to my apartment and back to my job, if I still have one. I told Colt I wasn’t sure, but that isn’t exactly the truth.

“It’s time to get back to my real life, I’ve been avoiding it a little,” I reply, hoping she understands. “But I’ve got stuff I need to work out, and enroll in school, all the things I said I’d do and haven’t done. I guess that’s the positive I can get from all of this.”

“You’ve barely had any time to heal,” she replies. “I think I should come with you, help you settle back in.”

I smirk. “And leave the office unattended? I don’t think Steel would cope.”

She frowns. “I just need to know you’re really okay.”

“I’m going to be fine,” I tell her.

She gives me a hug, then pulls back. “What about Colt?”

I bite my lip. “What about him?”

I confessed that we’d hooked up a couple of times, leaving out the part that I’m feeling things for him I shouldn’t. It’s why I need to get away.

I’ll fall for him and then he’ll leave, and I’ll be a freaking mess all over again.

It’s hard enough as it is. We have a connection, and it isn’t just physical; he gets me.

“I’ve seen the way you two look at each other.”

I smile softly. “He’s good in bed, what’s not to smile about?”

She smiles too. “It’s more than that, Cass, and you know it.”

I frown. “Has he said anything?”

She shakes her head. “Not to me, but you can tell he likes you a lot. He can’t keep his eyes off you whenever you’re in the same room. It’s like fireworks go off. He’s never been one to flaunt it around the club, he keeps to himself, and I’ve never seen him pay attention to someone like he has been to you before.”

This is why it makes it all that much harder to leave when we’re just getting to the good stuff.

I should have known that sex is always complicated though I can’t seem to regret the decision.

“Well, I can always visit, I’m not far away now.” I shrug. “I’ll call you every day if that makes you feel better.”

No more questions or shit about Colt, or I’ll change my mind.

She gives me a watery smile. “When are you planning on going?”

“I’ve been looking at flights for tomorrow, there’s a morning flight.”

She nods like she understands. “I’m happy to drive you, if you’d like that?”

“Sienna, you don’t have to do that. I’m a big girl,” I remind her, squeezing her knee. “I’m going to be okay.”

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I feel better. The last thing I want to do is hurt her or act ungrateful to the club. I wish things could be different, but I don’t live here.
