Chapter 14

“I don’t think I have the bladder control for this.”

“Hmm?” I answered, bouncing lightly on my toes before adjusting the strap connecting my harness to the daisy chain.

When Jenna mentioned—and I agreed to—a yoga class, she neglected one essential word.

Bungee.

This was a bungee yoga class—where adjustable cords hung from the ceiling and attached to harnesses we strapped ourselves into—like a toddler on a park swing. I was all for flying through the air with the greatest of ease, like Superman, but the thought of falling on my face was terrifying. I lightly bounced on the balls of my feet and stretched my arms, letting my legs go slack as I tried to cross them.

I squeaked, grabbing the cords as the ground got close way too fast, but I stopped before I crash-landed and bounced back up.

Oh.

“OMG. Your face.” Jenna laughed as the instructor worked to modify the cords and harness to accommodate her stomach, which slung below her belly and acted as a way for her to take the weight off her legs rather than bounce around like the rest of the class.

“I don’t have the coordination for this,” I murmured back, laughing at the absurdity of the morning.

“You? Um, you do see the beachball I’m carrying around, don’t you? I’m one jump away from complete embarrassment.” She leaned toward me for a high five, and I slapped my palm against hers, the bungee cord snapping me back into place as my stomach twinged. I sucked in a breath, putting my hand on my belly and taking a drink of water.

Who’d of thought closet orgasms would lead to sore ab muscles.

I shook my head, wondering how I’d gotten myself into this predicament until that darn little voice mocked that it was of my own making.

“Did you do an ab workout this morning or something?” she asked, kicking one leg out before laughing as she dropped slowly to the floor.

“Not exactly,” I said, setting my water to the side and facing her. “Can I ask you a question? With Mark. How did you know he was worth taking the next step with?”

“Oh. Um—”

“Never mind. Forget I asked.” I huffed, rolling my shoulders and pressing my hands to my cheeks.

“No. No. Please. I’ll be glad to share. You just caught me off guard, is all.”

The instructor made it to the front of the class, turning on an upbeat dance tune while taking us through basic warm-up stretches.

“I am working in harmony with the forces of nature and my body to alleviate stress and find my calming center,” Jenna said, winking as she followed along. “Mark has me doing these breathing exercises to help with my anxiety. He’s gone all Mister Mom protective guy since I got pregnant. Well, more so than he already was,” she giggled, bending to squat with one hand braced on her stomach.

I smiled, focusing on the warmth in her eyes when she spoke about her husband. Did I look like that when I talked about Magnum? Nope.
