Cobra

The drive back to my house is a quiet affair. I imagine she’s getting lost in her thoughts, again. As I pull into my garage I glance over at Jaycee and see her nervously playing with her fingers. Silently, I chuckle to myself. I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s half scared to death tonight.

“I meant what I said the other night, Tiger,” I tell her opening the passenger door. “Nothing has to happen until you’re ready. All I want is to hold you in my arms. If it progresses further, that’s your decision. I’ll never push you for more. Ever.”

Within seconds of exiting my SUV, we hear Nyx barking and scratching at the garage door. As soon as we enter the house I know exactly what his issue is and move quickly to the back door letting him out.

“He’s definitely made himself at home,” Jaycee remarks as I turn on the backyard lights for the pooch.

“Come on, let’s go get comfy in the living room while he takes care of his business.”

“Aw, so much better,” she says, stretching as she removes her heels. “As much as I love dressing up, I definitely prefer my riding boots over heels any day.

“So, you’re a boots kind of girl and not so much a heels woman? What else do you prefer?”

“Mmm… let me see. I prefer to watch a movie at home on my couch with my trail mix, instead of going to the theaters. I prefer a long hot soak in the tub over showers. I like my bike better than my Jeep, but I love riding on the back of yours the most. Lastly, I definitely prefer lounge pants to a dress.”

“So, my girl is a cozy at home girl more than let’s get dressed up and go out on the town?”

“Absolutely. I miss my pajamas. I should have had Liam bring me some from their house. But I thought I’d be home by now.”

“The tape is gone from around your home, so I bet we can go over to your house and get your pajamas if you really want them. Or we can find you something of mine to slip into for the night.”

“That sounds good. I really don’t feel like going home anyway, not yet. I know since the tape is gone that the police have cleared the scene. I know it’s supposed to be safe, but right now it feels like I’ve been—”

“I know baby. I’m going to let Nyx back in. Then we can head upstairs and see what we can find for you to wear.”

Nyx bolts up the stairs in front of racing straight into the guest room as I follow Jaycee. I swear the woman is deliberately swaying her hips just to toy with me. As we enter my room, she looks at the bed and then me. All the while nibbling on her bottom lip. Casually, I walk over to my closet and pull out a baby blue button-up shirt and turn around to give it to her.
