Pirates Sound was located at the northernmost tip of Neptune Oasis. The sun was about to set, which meant Glo would soon turn into an actual glow-in-the-dark dragon. I’d need to give us a disguise before we went inside the bar.

The terrain was rocky and steep, so I had to take extra care with the Polaris. Most of the trees on this side of the island were what the locals called Bermuda cedars, but there were also forestiera, hackberry, palmettos, and yellow wood trees looming over us.

When we’d returned to Neptune Oasis after talking with Regis, we found Ophelia Mandrake at her home. The elderly sea witch was sitting on her front porch, crocheting a blanket. After some hesitating embarrassment on her part, Ophelia finally admitted she’d spent the evening with Regis. Not her finest moment, she assured us…but it seemed the merman was somewhat of a catch with the older ladies, and Ophelia Mandrake was no exception. She admitted they usually hooked up about once a month.

I slowed as we neared the wooden shack that was known as Pirates Sound. Situated in a cove just a few feet from the water, it was a favorite hangout for Neptune Oasis citizens. Rarely did the tourist venture this far north.

“Let me glamour us real quick,” I said.

Glo groaned. “You better not make me no yellow canary or something silly like that.”

“Not my plan. We’d stick out as tourists,” I said, waving my hand in the air and whispering an incantation. “But this should work.”

Glo let out a bark of laughter…but instead of her usual fire, a long tongue darted out of her mouth. “You made me a lizard, Law Lady! Here I was laughing at the demigod, and you made me a lizard!”

I looked over at Jace and bit my lip to keep from laughing. I’d turned him into a shrimp shifter. His torso was elongated, and his limbs were thin and lacking muscle. Since most locals didn’t dress up like the tourists did for dinner, I’d given Jace black board shorts, a Hawaiian shirt, and black sandals.

I was a selkie shifter with short black hair, green eyes, and wide lips. Like Jace, I was wearing a casual outfit of board shorts, a sleeveless top, and sandals.

“You owe me for this one, Detective,” Jace said, his voice high-pitched and nasally.

I couldn’t help the giggle that escaped. “Sorry. It was the most polar opposite I could think of.”

“Let’s go,” Glo said, scrambling up Jace’s skinny arm and resting on his boney shoulder, “before Spike or someone else sees me like this.”

We strolled to the front of the bar and walked inside. Most of the restaurant was outside on the deck, but there were a few tables and an indoor bar to the left. Straight ahead was an open area outside that sat about thirty to forty people comfortably.

“Outside, two o’clock,” I hissed.

Jace looked a little to the right and nodded. “I see him.”

Regis Smith was sitting at a table against the side of the deck.
