Uses of the Pronouns

The possessive pronouns are used primarily in three areas:

a) As the replacement for the noun:

my house and ours mi casa y la nuestra

b) As an “adjective” with nouns, as follows:

several friends of mine unos amigos míos

Note: “of” is not expressed.

c) As the possessive used after ser:

¿Este vestido? This dress?

Es tuyo. It is yours.

¿Estos carros? These cars?

Son nuestros. They are ours.

Note: The definite article is normally omitted after ser.
