Teaching the Existence or Absence
of Something to Meditate on
and Its Applications
as well as the Teaching
for Middling Intellects
on Continuous Samadhi
with Its Validations
Then again the Lord of Secrets questioned him:
Kye kye!
Blessed One,
Vajradhara,
Is there something to meditate on,
Or is there not?
How is this?
That is what he asked.
Then our teacher gave instruction:
Vajradhara,
Take this well!
I teach non-dual great bliss.
It is entirely free from all the conventionalities
Of there being or not being anything to meditate on.
Those who have the power of knowledge
Understand the meaning of self-awareness.
There is no joining to or separating from
The experience of non-dual great bliss.
We let go of things that do not fit,
And we do not move away from this state,
So we are clear.
There is nothing that will stop our flow.
We are like the river Ganges.
I have taught this for the sake of those with the keenest of senses.
For the people who support me,
Who have middling amounts of knowledge,
I teach that non-meditation is our meditation.
To yogins who are small in the force of knowledge
I teach that without meditation
We will not become Buddhas.
O Lord of Secrets,
Take it as sure!
Just as a lotus lives in the mud
But is not stained by any faults,
The external and internal may arise as delusions,
But there is primordially no deviance from self-awareness.
There is a Buddha that is not a delusion.
Child of Good Family,
The pure base of the DharmakÄya
Is ornamented by the two form bodies,
Which are its pure results.
The three bodies of significance
Are neither joined nor separate,
Like a butter lamp that is inside of a vase.
We shine within our wisdom.
Child of Good Family,
Our heap of form,
The external vessel that is the world,
Shines within an infinite palace,
A mandala for training living beings.
Where there is an infinite palace of unceasing wisdom
There is the radiance of the three bodies,
As light.
The four embodiments
Have bodies, speech, and minds.
The mandala of natural purity is unceasingly present.
Its compassion manifests without ceasing
As the five herukas,
So it uses compassion as a self-originating mandala.
Those who abide in this way
Are Buddhas who are not deluded.
Child of Good Family,
The teaching of an uncreated reality
To a Buddha that is not deluded
Is a mirror of the heart.
As an analogy,
This is like using a mirror we have made
To put these heaps that are associated with outflows
Into order.
That which is the wisdom that has no outflow
Is unceasingly clear.
The basis of all things
Is clearly the mirror-like wisdom,
And it is pure.
This is the meaning of the unhindered base
That is the origin of all things.
It was not created by the convictions
That are the hands of a blacksmith.
From out of the space in the heart of Amitabha
There appears by itself
And there arises by itself
A crystal reliquary
That is five throne-lengths in height.
It turns into the mirror of our heart.
At the time we are teaching in symbols,
A box that is associated with outflows
Will not hold the wisdom that has no outflows,
But it will appear just as we see it
In the mirror of the wisdom of our hearts.
The basis for our delusions about this
Is put into order in the great tika of upadeÅa instructions.
The meaning is that this is a magnificent and self-originating wisdom,
So it does not experience changing through the three times.
