AVENUE MONTAIGNE
Pay homage to the fashion gods here. Shop till you dropâor just watch the experts.
Metro: Alma Marceau
Avenue Montaigne, which begins here, is the center of haute couture; almost all the big names in the fashion world are represented along this broad boulevard. You will find Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Escada, Bulgari, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, and even Baby Dior, among many, many others. If you want to feel exceptionally grand, stop at the glitzy and luxurious Plaza Athenée (#25) for a drink in its elegant reception area. Keep an eye out for celebrities strolling by. Walk along rue François 1er for a few more très chic shopping opportunities. If you need a rest, indulge in a cup of rum-laced hot chocolate or a chocolate shake at La Maison du Chocolat, at 52, rue Pierre Charron, where the chocolates are packaged and displayed like jewels. Cross the Rond Point up to avenue Matignon, peeking into the high-end art galleries along the way. Turn right onto avenue Gabriel, left on avenue de Marigny, and right again on rue du Faubourg St. Honoré to continue this fashion tour. Here, the street is narrower, and although the shops remain the height of refinement (as reflected in the price tags), they are somehow more approachable. Stop at Hermès (#24) and savor the beautiful leather bags and the selection of ties and other accessories. Youâll notice that the area is absolutely teeming with security guards: The Palais de lâÃlyséeâthe presidential palaceâruns along the south side of the street. Once youâve exhausted your desire for shopping, turn right onto rue St. Florentin to reach the Concorde metro.
