Fifteen

I, Gold Ryan, sat bolt upright on my stone bench. My jaw set tightly as I did my level best to control my emotions, but hot angry tears were spilling out of my eyes as I seethed.

In the span of one night I missed months of my life. Again.

So many details were missing. So many of the connections and emotions I should have been feeling were replaced with confusion. I had no clue who Empress Xola was or why Euna and I slipped into the elven capital just to steal away some little elven girl named Qora. I could guess, and there were some context clues to piece it all together, but it was my life! I shouldn’t have to watch it all unfold like some damn highlight reel catching me up the seasons I missed from my favorite television show!

Tabitha was leading an army of werewolves?

I had a new orcish girlfriend, actually scratch that, wife?

I had a cross-dimensional orgy with all of my women at the same time?

I killed my first ever Herald of Darkness?

And I had to watch it all on fast-forward while I slept on a stone bench.

Mother. Fucker.

“Awww, is the monkey sad?” An all-too-familiar voice asked, interrupting my rapidly darkening thought.

I rounded on the smug archangel and a disgusted sound escaped me. “Not today, Ash. Don’t you dare even fucking try me today if you value your life.”

Ash chuckled mirthless. “You really sound just like him, you know that?”

I paused, glaring over at the archangel. “Who?”

“Zoranus, of course. Sometimes I swear you two could be related.”

My eyes narrowed suspiciously. “I’m nothing like that monster.”

Ash shrugged as he pulled me out of my cell. “Whatever you say, ape. This way. Zoranus has something special planned for you today and I,” an evil gleam shone in the archangel’s eyes. “I have something to show you.”

Not that I had much say in it, but with how hard my blood was pumping, I would have gone with Ash anyway. Any chance to remain within striking distance of his stupid face was better than remaining cooped up in my cell with nothing to do.
