Chapter Sixteen

Tiger eased the limo in front of Cherry’s restaurant, hopped out, and opened Wynton’s door. Tiger was stunned to see the leather seats and the floor of the limo covered in rose petals. Wynton’s mischievous grin added to the perversion that both men hoped to go down.

“Man, this girl has got to be special,” Tiger beamed. “You have never done anything like this, not even for Tara.”

“And you will say nothing of it either,” Wynton warned. “I will fire you on the spot.”

“My lips are sealed. I only wish it was me that had as many options as you have.”

Wynton was about to make a strange comment, but when he looked at Tiger’s receding hairline and his toothless grin he decided it was best left unsaid. Sabrina looked as if she were the type who would enjoy a threesome, but if Wynton suggested that Tiger be part of the mix, Wynton was sure Sabrina would take flight in the opposite direction. All things considered, this move was not about Tiger; it was all about Jasmine Benton. He instructed Tiger to keep the limo running, because he intended to woo Jasmine back to the car within a few minutes.

A waitress led Wynton to the booth where Jasmine sat. When she looked up from the menu she had been perusing, Wynton’s heart smashed against his chest. Those bedroom eyes – that had always gotten his juices flowing – seized every muscle in his body. He was thankful that the waitress provided some distraction by asking him what he wanted to drink. He took off his fedora and flashed Jasmine one of those killer smiles he reserved for moments like these.

“Ms. Benton, you came.”

“What gave you the idea that I wouldn’t show?” she countered.

“I don’t know…nerves, I guess…”

“For you or for me? I don’t have anything to be nervous about...” Jasmine looked away and then back to Wynton. She took in his attire with a little smirk. “You look nice. You know I have always loved to see a white man in a white suit.”

“Thank you. I was hoping to get a little more excitement than that – but, I’ll take it…”

“I’ll be upfront with you Wynton,” Jasmine started, “I am trying my hardest to stay upbeat. Between you and your brother, my time here in Florida has not been as painful as it would have been. I am grateful for the hospitality. However, I’m heading back to New York tomorrow to resume my life. My father has agreed to handle all of my mother’s affairs, at least what is left of them.”

Wynton’s expression drooped in disappointment. “Why won’t you stay for my wedding?”

“Why should I?”

“Because, we go way back, Jasmine. How could you even ask ‘why’?”

“If my mother had not died and I hadn’t had a reason to come to Florida, would you have sent me an invitation?”

“Is that what this is about, an invitation? The question is: Would you have even come.”

“Of course not.”

“Then why are we having this conversation?”

Jasmine swiped her ringlets out of her face and then absorbed Wynton’s expression with an intense gaze.
