What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?

What is it?

A good party game for younger kids, best played somewhere there’s room to run about.

How to play

Choose one of the kids to be Mr Wolf, who then stands facing a wall. Don’t cry if you’re picked; it’s just as much fun to be Mr Wolf and be in control of the others as it is to be one of the potential ‘victims’. The rest of the players line up several steps away, ideally as far as they can get in the space available. The game starts when they all say, together, ‘What’s the time, Mr Wolf?’

Mr Wolf decides what time he wants it to be and announces this, for example, ‘It’s four o’clock’. The players then take four steps towards him. It’s two steps for two o’clock, and so on. Play continues in this way and excitement mounts as the distance between the players and Mr Wolf gets ever smaller.

When Mr Wolf decides play has gone on long enough, when he’s next asked the time he cries out ‘It’s dinner time!’ and he turns and tries to catch one of the players. If he’s successful, the caught player then takes his place as Mr Wolf.
