Objective

Before I start my opening, I remember my Objective. Usually the objective is a particular square I want to reach with a particular piece.

Next, I separate my opening into three key positions.

The Base

The Base of an Opening is usually the first three moves. (However, it could be more or less.) It’s the set-up for the opening. I can reach the base of the opening about 90 percent of the time. It’s early enough in the game my opponent wouldn’t be able to stop me from getting there.

The Climax

The Climax is the point at which I’ve accomplished my objective. It’s usually a Fork, Pin, or Skewer or the point where the Payoff is guaranteed, but not yet achieved.
