In general, the salts of Na+, K+, and NH4+ are all very water soluble. All Cl−, Br−, and I− salts are very water soluble with the exception of Ag, Pb, and Hg, which have very low solubilities. All NO3− salts are water soluble and SO42− salts are soluble with the exception of BaSO4 and PbSO4. Also, CO32−, CrO42−, PO43−, and SiO42− have very low solubilities with the exception of the Na+, K+, and NH4+ salts and MgCrO4, which are all very soluble. All sulfides have very low water solubilities with the exception of (NH4)2S, Na2S, K2S, BaS, CaS, and MgS. Most all of the hydroxide salts are insoluble with the exception of NH4OH, NaOH, KOH, CsOH, and RbOH. Also, Ba(OH)2, Ca(OH)2, and Sr(OH)2 are a little more soluble than most of the other inorganic hydroxide salts.

The aqueous solubility of ionic solids is determined experimentally and the solubility product constant (Ksp)is calculated from the equilibrium equation as
