Caroline

Caroline grinned to herself as she watched the clock.

“I’ve never seen you so happy to see the end of the working day before. Could it have something to do with a certain good-looking hockey player whose team is back for a series of home games?”

She pursed her lips as she turned to face Julie’s expectant face. “Maybe.”

“Yes.” Julie clapped her hands in joy. “Tell me all about it. Is he a great kisser? Good in bed? Met more of his hockey buddies?” She leaned in closer. “Are they like football players and known for their orgies?”

Laughter bubbled from her lips and continued to grow stronger as she replayed Julie’s words until she doubled over in her chair. Tears spilled over her eyes as she wheezed in an attempt to breathe and stifle her giggles. “Orgies? Oh my gosh. Like I would know anything about that. Can you see me in that situation?”

“Well…” Julie squinted before shrugging. “Maybe not, but you should. It might do you some good.”

Her mouth opened in a silent O. Had her friend just said that? She reached out and slapped her friend’s shoulder, causing them both to laugh. “I-I can’t believe you said that.”

The look on Julie’s face showed she wasn’t sorry for what she suggested. And being honest with herself, her dreams may not have consisted of orgies, but they certainly contained both Brad and Stephen doing unspeakable things to her. Enough that all the latest romance novels she read tended to be ménage and more on the erotic side.

“So, have you?”

“Have I what?”

Julie rolled her eyes. “Kissed him? Had sex?”

She couldn’t keep the blush from her cheeks. It was like trying to hold back the tide. “Um, maybe.”

“You dog.” Julie threw her arms around her, hugging her tight.” “I’m so happy for you. You deserve all the joy and happiness you can get.”

“Thanks.”

Julie released her but stared at her with a raised eyebrow. She knew Julie wouldn’t let her leave without some details, and she really wanted this over with before Brad showed up to take her out for supper. “Fine. We’ve kissed. Many times. And it’s amazing.”

With a nod of her chin, Julie stood. “Good. Have fun.” She walked over to the office door and called over her shoulder, “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”

Caroline lifted a foam stress ball from the desk and chucked it at the back of a laughing Julie. “Ass. There’s nothing you wouldn’t do.”

“Exactly.”

“It’s good to see you laughing. Did I miss something funny?”

Her head whipped around at the sound of Brad’s deep voice while her cheeks coloured. Shit. Had he heard what they’d been talking about? She examined his eyes, looking for any hidden knowledge or deceit. When she didn’t find any, her breath stuttered out a sigh of relief. “No. You didn’t miss anything. Julie was just trying to be funny.”

He nodded before leaning over the front circulation desk and kissing her. “Hi,” he said against her lips.

“Hi.”

He kissed her again. His lips clung to hers, refusing to let go as Brad pulled back.
